1954 – The UK publication, Record Mirror, issues its first edition.
1955 – Singer Eddie Fisher marries actress Debbie Reynolds in

1958 – After threatening legal action, Atlantic/Atco Records acquire
the master tapes of Bobby Darin’s April 24 recording session for Decca
Records after Decca’s Brunswick subsidiary label released two of the
songs, “Early In The Morning” and “Now We’re One,” on May 27, credited
to the non-existent group The Ding Dongs. Atco will re-release the
single, this time credited to Bobby Darin and The Rinky Dinks, in
July.
1962 – The Dave Brubeck Quartet performs "Take Five" on The Ed
Sullivan Show. Other musical guests include Robert Goulet, Gloria
Lynne, and folk group The Highwaymen, featuring John Phillips and
Scott McKenzie.

1977 – When Jimmy Helms pulls out of a gig at the last minute at
Shoreditch College in Surrey, members of the social committee call
upon famous local, Elton John, who lives just up the road, and ask him
if he would be willing to play. Elton agrees, and heads down to the
school where he performs for two bottles of wine.
1977 – Neil Sedaka hosts The Midnight Special, with guests Kenny
Rogers, Renaissance, George Benson, Small Wonder, Carole Bayer Sager,
and Fleetwood Mac on film.
1978 – At the Lorelei Festival in West Germany, concert goers cause $1
million in damages during a riot created by Jefferson Starship's Grace
Slick when the overly drunk singer begins taunting the audience with
Nazi epithets. Slick will quit the band over the incident.
1978 – Andy Gibb makes Billboard history when his song "Shadow
Dancing" reaches #1, making Gibb the first solo artist ever to have
his first three releases go to #1.
1980 – Led Zeppelin begins their final tour with a show at
Westfalenhalle in Dortmund, Germany.
1983 – The three-day Glastonbury Festival begins in Pilton, Shepton
Mallet. Festival artists include James Brown, UB40, Fun Boy Three, The

1987 – Real estate agent Vittoria Hohman sues Mötley Crüe and concert
promoter Beach Club Promotions for hearing loss she allegedly suffered
at a concert at Bayfront Center in St. Petersburg, Florida. The case
will be settled out of court, with Hohman receiving more than $30,000
from the band’s insurance company.
1989 – Ringo Starr announces this year's All Starr Band, which
includes Billy Preston, Joe Walsh, Dr. John, Nils Lofgren, Levon Helm,
Rick Danko and Clarence Clemens.
1991 – Grand Ole Opry star Minnie Pearl suffers a debilitating stroke
which ends her performing career. She will spend the next five years
in a nursing home until her death.
1995 – Rod Stewart sets an attendance record at Wembley when he
performs for nearly 85,000.
1997 – A riot ensues at Ozzfest in Columbus, Ohio, when Ozzy is unable
to perform due to throat problems.
1999 – A 19-year old girl is crushed to death in the moshpit during
Hole’s set at the Hultsfred Festival in Sweden. The girl’s body is
later recovered more than 50 yards from the stage behind a mixing
board. Singer for Hole, Courtney Love, will attend several days of
vigils for the girl.
2005 – Babyshambles singer Pete Doherty and girlfriend model Kate Moss
are thrown off a yacht in Porto Cervo, on the island of Sardinia,
after Doherty is caught smoking crack cocaine on the boat.

2006 – Australian entertainer Rolf Harris receives the CBE from Queen

2011 – An 18-year old computer hacker known as DJ Stolen is sentenced
to 18 months in prison in Germany for stealing songs from Lady Gaga,
Justin Timberlake, Leona Lewis, Kesha and Mariah Carey during 2009 and
2010, and earning more than 15,000 euros (£13,260) by breaking
copyright laws and hacking a number of singers, using software to
steal unpublished songs and then offer them for sale on the Internet.
The teen is also ordered to undergo therapy for an addiction to the
Internet.
2012 – Wynonna Judd marries her third husband, drummer Scott “Cactus”
Moser.
