1955 – Billboard magazine announces the first rock and roll record to reach 
#1 is "Rock Around The Clock" by Bill Haley and His Comets, scoring the

1955 – Pat Boone releases his single, "Ain't That A Shame" b/w "Tennessee 
Saturday Night."

1956 – Dick Clark takes over as host of the Philadelphia television show 
Bandstand, after original host Bob Horn is fired because of a drunk driving 
conviction.

1956 – *Bill Haley* and His Comets are denied permission to play at 
Roosevelt Stadium in *New Jersey** because of the riot that occurred at 
their concert in *Asbury Park on June 30.

1957 – Elvis Presley's second movie, Loving You, premieres in theaters.

1957 – Bobby *Helms*, backed by The Anita Kerr Singers, records "My *Special
