1956 – Elvis Presley's "Hound Dog" hits the charts at #24.

1956 – George Jones and Jimmy C. Newman join the Grand Ole Opry.

1957 – The *Everly Brothers* perform “Bye Bye Love” and “Wake Up Little 
Susie” on The Ed *Sullivan* Show. Also on the show is Frankie Lymon, 
performing “Goody Goody.”

1958 – Billboard combines record sales figures from five popularity charts 
to create the Billboard Hot 100. Ricky Nelson's "Poor Little Fool" is the 
first song to top the new chart.

1959 – Skeeter Davis joins the Grand Ole Opry.

1962 – The Rollin’ Stones play their third live gig - and their first 
outside the London area - at the William Morris Hall in South Oxhey.

1963 – The Beatles' "From Me To You" charts in the U.S. at #116, thanks to 
Del Shannon's cover version of the song which charted first. In the UK, The 
Beatles perform at the Queen’s Theatre in Blackpool. Due to the size of the 
crowd inside and outside the theatre, the group is forced to enter the 
venue through a roof skylight via scaffolding from a neighboring building.
