1964 – The 4th annual National Jazz Festival is held at the Richmond

1970 – The Goose Lake International Music Festival begins in Leoni Township

The Stooges, The Flying Burrito Brothers, The James Gang, Bob Seger,

1971 – Frank Zappa and The Mothers, along with The Phlorescent Leech and 
Eddie, appear at the Pauley Pavilion on the UCLA campus, and record the 
show for live album release. The subsequent album, Just Another Band From

Volman.

1972 – The Eagles perform at the PNE Coliseum in Vancouver, British 
Columbia.

1974 – J. Geils’ singer Peter Wolf marries actress Faye Dunaway. They stay

1976 – The Sex Pistols appear on the cover of Melody Maker.

1979 – The Marshall Tucker Band appears at the Long Beach Arena in southern 
California. During the course of the concert, an angry fan steals a car 
from the parking lot and crashes it into the arena, plowing through two 
sets of metal doors and a brick wall.

1981 – Arkansas governor Frank D. White pays tribute to Claude King and his 
1962 hit by declaring the day "Wolverton Mountain Day."

1981 – B.J. Thomas joins the Grand Ole Opry on his 39th birthday.

1987 – 24 years to the day after the release of Beach Party, Back To The

1987 – In an interview on NBC’s The Today Show, Madonna calls her Michigan

1995 – LL Cool J (aka James Smith) marries Simone Johnson at his home in 
Long Island. They are still married.

1996 – A federal appeals court overturns the ruling that original Frankie 
Lymon and The Teenagers members, Jimmy Merchant and Herman Santiago, 
co-wrote the group's biggest hit, "Why Do Fools Fall In Love?" ruling that 
copyright claims must be filed within three years of the song's publication.

1997 – An estimated 1,000,000 people turn out to see a free concert by 
Garth Brooks in Central Park in New York City. It is the largest free 
concert ever to be held in the park. The concert is also broadcast live on 
HBO, with an estimated 15 million viewers.

1999 – The Dave Matthews Band plays the last of three nights at the Meadows 
Music Theater in Hartford, Connecticut. Rioting by non-ticket holders 
occurs before and after the show in surrounding parking lots. 41 people are 
arrested.

2007 – A West London Magistrate Court judge delays sentencing for 
Babyshambles singer Pete Doherty, who was arrested in July for possession 
of crack cocaine, heroin and marijuana, to see if the singer can get off 
drugs through rehab.

2008 – Elvis Presley’s peacock jumpsuit sells for $300,000 at an auction, 
becoming the highest price paid for any Elvis memorabilia.

2012 – Country singer Randy Travis is found drunk and naked lying in the 
middle of the road in Sherman, Texas. When police arrive on the scene, 
Travis threatens to shoot and kill them.
