Lake Michigan cruise ship.

to record for the newly formed U.S. branch of Decca Records.
1941 – Les Brown and His Orchestra, with Betty Bonney on vocals, records
“Joltin’ Joe DiMaggio” and “The Nickel Serenade.”
1958 – Under his new Columbia Records contract, Johnny Cash records “All
Over Again,” “Frankie’s Man Johnny,” “Mama’s Baby,” “Fool’s Hall Of Fame,”
“One More Ride” and four songs at Owen Bradley’s Quonset Hut studio in
Nashville.
1958 – The Kingston Trio releases their single, “Tom Dooley” b/w “Ruby Red”

1975 – While climbing Ajax Peak in Montana, Hank Williams, Jr. falls 500
feet onto solid rock, splitting his face and skull open from chin to scalp,
exposing his brains. Reconstructive surgery takes two years, and Williams
incorporates a beard, sunglasses and cowboy hat to help hide the
disfigurement and scars.
1980 – The Greater London Council bans The Plasmatics from blowing up a car
on stage during their UK live debut at London's Hammersmith Odeon.
1980 – The Clash releases their single, “Bankrobber” b/w “Rockers Galore…UK

1981 – MTV broadcasts its first concert, featuring REO Speedwagon, filmed
on July 2 at the McNichols Sports Arena in Denver, Colorado.
1983 – Harold Melvin and three other members of The Blue Notes are arrested
for cocaine possession in Atlantic City.
1986 – David Crosby is released from prison in Huntsville, Texas, after
serving only eight months of a five-year sentence for drugs and firearms

1991 – On A Friday - soon to become Radiohead - appears at the Jericho
Tavern in Oxford, England.
1992 – A riot breaks out at Montreal’s Olympic Stadium during a Guns ‘N
Roses and Metallica concert. Early in the show, Metallica’s James Hetfield
is injured by pyrotechnics, cutting their set short. After only a few songs
into Guns ‘N Roses’ set, Axl Rose complains of a sore throat, and they
leave the stage. The riot ensues.
1996 – At a KISS concert at Riverfront Stadium in Cincinnati, a fan throws
his prosthetic leg on stage. The band members all sign the leg and hand it
back, then continue with the show.
2002 – The UK's largest undertaking firm, Co-Op Funeral Services, reports
that bereaved families prefer pop songs to hymns at funerals. Topping the
list is “Wind Beneath My Wings” by Bette Midler. Other songs include
“Angels” by Robbie Williams, and “My Heart Will Go On” by Céline Dion.
Other more unusual choices include “Another One Bites The Dust” by Queen,

2004 – The driver of Dave Matthews Band’s tour bus dumps 800 lbs. of human
waste through a grate on a Chicago bridge onto passengers aboard a
sightseeing boat below. Criminal charges and lawsuits are pressed.
2005 – On NBC’s The Today Show, two jurors from Michael Jackson’s
molestation case express regret with the “not guilty” verdict.
2006 – After losing 60 lbs., Janet Jackson appears in only bikini bottoms
on the cover of Vibe magazine.
2007 – The U.S. National Musical Publishers' Association joins other
businesses in seeking to sue YouTube, claiming songwriters are not being
properly compensated when their music appears on the site.
