Heminger. They stay married until her death in 1989.

1947 – The first ever country music show takes place at Carnegie Hall, with 
Ernest Tubb and Roy Acuff headlining.

1954 – Elvis Presley performs at the Eagle’s Nest in Memphis, Tennessee.

1955 – The weekly variety program Toast Of The Town is re-named The Ed 
Sullivan Show after its host.

1956 – A fight breaks out during a Fats Domino concert at the U.S. Naval 
Station 
in Newport, Rhode Island, causing a ban on further rock shows.

1957 – Frankie Avalon appears on American Bandstand.

1957 – The Big Record, CBS’s answer to American Bandstand, debuts with host 
Patti Page. Guests include Tony Bennett, Sal Mineo, Hoagy Carmichael, David 
Wayne with Ella Logan, Mitch Miller, Jayne Morgan, and Billy Ward and His 
Dominos. The show lasts one season.

1957 – The Biggest Show Of Stars package tour hits the Coliseum in 
Baltimore, Maryland, featuring The Crickets, The Drifters, Chuck Berry, The 
Everly Brothers, Frankie Lymon, LaVerne Baker, Paul Anka, Buddy Knox, Clyde

1967 – Filming continues on The Beatles’ Magical Mystery Tour at the 
Raymond Revuebar, a Soho striptease club. Also sharing the stage with the 
strippers is The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band.

1968 – The Beatles record the backing track for “Birthday” in 20 takes, 
after which they take a break and go to Paul’s house to watch The Girl 
Can’t Help It on television. After the movie, they return to the studio and 
overdub the vocals, with Yoko Ono and Patti Harrison providing backing 
vocals.

1969 – Tiny Tim announces his engagement to Miss Vicki Budinger on The 
Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. Carson invites him to get married on 
the show.

1971 – Pink Floyd becomes the first rock act to perform at Montreux, 
Switzerland's Classical Music Festival.

1971 – ABC-TV debuts Getting Together, starring Bobby Sherman and Wes Stern 
as songwriters - based loosely on the lives of real songwriters Tommy Boyce 
and Bobby Hart. It lasts 14 weeks.

held at the Paradise Club in Amsterdam to commemorate the 10th anniversary

1981 – While attempting to fly around the world in a single engine Cessna 
airplane, Gary Numan and his pilot experience engine trouble over India and 
land the plane, only to be arrested for spying and smuggling.

1983 – To celebrate the release of their new album, Lick It Up, KISS

2005 – The 20th anniversary Farm Aid concert is held at the First Midwest

Guy, Emmylou Harris, Los Lonely Boys, Kenny Chesney, Wilco, Susan Tedeschi, 
Widespread Panic, John Mayer, Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, Neil Young,

2006 – Sir Cliff Richard unveils a plaque at the 2 I’s coffee bar in 
London's Old Compton Street on its 50 anniversary, said to be the 
birthplace of British rock and roll.

2006 – Echo and The Bunnymen singer Ian McCulloch is convicted of breach of 
the peace by shouting, swearing and threatening Gary Duncan and his 
girlfriend, Juliet Sebley, backstage at Glasgow Barrowlands in Scotland, 
after McCulloch found two fans in his private bathroom.

2006 – Willie Nelson's tour bus is stopped near Lafayette, Louisiana, and 
Nelson, along with four members of his band, are arrested for possession of 
marijuana and psychedelic mushrooms.

2007 – Entertainment management company, The Firm, drops client Britney 
Spears after only one month because of her erratic lifestyle.

2009 – Leonard Cohen collapses on stage during a concert in Valencia, 
Spain, and is taken to a hospital where he is diagnosed with food poisoning.
