I do not have a site survey yet - I can only estimate visually at this
point. River is about 20' wide and my wife is up to her eyeballs in
the center of the flow. She's 5'2" so figure 4 1/2' deep. The hole
appears pretty wide so I'd give it an average depth across of 2'.
That's 40 square feet. There's white water around the rocks so I'd say
there's at least 60 feet per minute velocity. 40 square feet times 60
feet per minute yields 2400 cubic feet per minute. Multiply by 7
gallons per cubic foot and that yields 96,000 gallons per minute. I'd
wager I could be off by 50% so lets say I have something on the order
of 40,000 GPM to work with.

I don't know microhydro too well (that's why I am here) but it seems
that's plenty of volume - head is going to be the issue.

I am guessing at the head. It could be less - and when you are talking
about that sort of head even a few feet makes a huge difference in
available power (or so I understand it).

Yes. Pricey stuff. I'm hunting around to see if I might know someone
who might let me borrow one they own. Not likely, I'm afraid.

I'll be there this coming september so I'll have better detail then.

Thanks - Brian
