Dear Mr. G. Kharel, August 17, 2004 Net Metering and being a power generator (Retail Generator) are two distinct situations. Net Metering typically means that you are replacing some (or all) of the electrical energy that you consume from the utility grid. The grid authority in Ontario, Canada (HydroOne) will not pay for electrical energy that exceeds the amount taken in any monthly billing period (calendar month). These excess amounts are not carried over or transferable to any other billing period.
Net Metering is limited to renewable technologies up to and including 50 kW of name plate rating. Retail Generator must obtain a generator license from the Ontario Energy Board and the application and process is different from that of Net Metering. If you wish to see the guidelines for Net Metering (HydroOne) please follow the link below. www.hydroone.com/en/electricity_industry/renewable_tech/ You also have access to a "Connection Agreement" and answers to common questions on this subject. Although this procedure may not be applicable to your location, it will give you a reference to understanding some of the issues and technical requirements for grid connected renewable energy projects. Respectfully yours, Ralph A. Sheldrick - President VISTA-TECH International Power Development & Energy Services 12397 Boyne Road, Suite 100, P.O. I need the information to prepare my arguments to the utility to go in for this concept and particularly the advantages to the utility (if any) for adopting this concept. I operate an generation and distribution system which was connected to the grid last month and I am still negotiating rates. The utility have told me what they will sell their energy for but the rate at which they will buy from me is still undecided! Would also appreciate to know of people's experience in dealing with a utility on this issue.
