There an excellent overview of net metering called "Clean Power at Home" at http://www.davidsuzuki.org/files/Clean.pdf. Our non profit, Friends of Renewable Energy BC, considers that net metering is an easy and safe way to encourage renewable energy, with many years of success behind it. Net metering happens naturally, for example when you step into an elevator and descend. It has to be forbidden by a utility... It is, however, opposed bitterly by centralized utilities. We feel that no utility that obstructs net metering by unnecessary regulations, fees, or low prices for product can be said to be interested in renewables.
