There an excellent overview of net metering called "Clean Power at Home" at
http://www.davidsuzuki.org/files/Clean.pdf. Our non profit, Friends of Renewable
Energy
BC, considers that net metering is an easy and safe way to encourage renewable energy,
with many years of success behind it. Net metering happens naturally, for example when
you
step into an elevator and descend. It has to be forbidden by a utility... It is,
however,
opposed bitterly by centralized utilities. Homepower magazine covers this issue quite
extensively at homepower.com.

You can read about our experience with net metering by looking at our newsletter at our
listserv at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/forebc/files/.
We feel that no utility that obstructs net metering by unnecessary regulations, fees,
or
low prices for product can be said to be interested in renewables.

Subject: [microhydro] net metering

I would appreciate it very much if friends in the group could provide me
with information on Net Metering. I need the information to prepare my
arguments to the utility to go in for this concept and particularly the
advantages to the utility (if any) for adopting this concept. I operate an
generation and distribution system which was connected to the
grid last month and I am still negotiating rates. The utility have told me
what they will sell their energy for but the rate at which they will buy
from me is still undecided!

Would also appreciate to know of people's experience in dealing with a
utility on this issue.

Regards

Girish
