Hi Jeffe
Interesting to read, very similar issues with the PowerPal units. As for power output you are 500W at the turbine and 380 W at the batteries this is 24% loss, seems a bit high. Installing a second unit would give you plenty and maybe some warm water. Installed Paul Cunninghams' Energy System's Canada LH1000. Uses 50 ltrs/sec (1/3 our low water flow), yesterday was outputting 500 watts at machine, not quite 380 watts after 2% cable loss and about 9% Maximizer loss. VERY easy to clean, low water or flood levels...basically just closing the butterfly on the intake to allow air to get sucked into the turning blades and the tiny bits that can get into the small intake inlets get gone. As the water race/intake system are still "closed" at low water, we still have a debris problem to solve, altho instead of sticks and stones, with the new machine it's small leaves and tiny bits of moss and 1 mm twigs. I'm thinking that since the LH1000 merely sits in an open box (we built a temporary one of ply while we ponder the permanent one), we can "open" up the system a bit by making one wall of the box able to slide up and down, to allow a couple of inches of water to flow over the top. If we can figure out how to work the coanda in such a way as to maybe install it upside down, in a sort of pyramid shape enclosing the turbine(s), while the intake comes in at the bottom of the box, the flow might move upwards, thus taking the leaves etc. up the sloped coanda pyramid, thence over the top??? Anyway, still working on debris in a system that wasn't planned for that properly, but at least the machine, which wieghs 20 kilos instead of 250 (!!), is very easy to deal with. Also, a new conundrum is sand coming into the water race in flood since the fires 2 years ago. Siphoning seems to work...wonder how long that'll last!!
