Just a follow up on this issue:
I reformatted and re-installed RedHat 6.1 and everything is now compiled and
working.
I have a libphp3.so that's working wonderfully with midgard, mysql, ldap and
imap.
I wish I knew what the source of the problem was so as to have a way to
detect it...
Thank you for all the help. Someday the site will go live and you all will
say "Wow, I knew when that guy was pulling his hair out trying to get it
working!"
