OK, after quite a bit of testing, it seems I must have been fat fingering something.
Maybe I am just too tired. After about 6 re-installs, I finally documented everything
I was doing, re-built 1.2.6 and re-installed. This time admin/password worked right
out of the shoot with a full 1.2.5 upgrade.
Anyway, thanks for your help.
Where will the v1.4beta be, when released?

No, nothing in logfiles. I will do some more testing. I will play around with the
persmissions for group 0 as you suggested.
