You found the problem. There's a preliminary patch at
http://www.midgard-project.org/~emiliano/lang-scan-lex.patch. I've tried
it and It Works For Me (tm). I'd like to see more tests/testers before
committing this, though.

The patch is against 1.2.5 but the change is rather simple so applying to
1.4b3 should be easy.
