Unfortunately that's not our experience with x86.  We've had it put ether1
on a random port and then sequentially go through the rest, it might jump up
or down the PCI slots, even the onboard changes.  It does look that it keeps
the settings after reboots and /system resets, but if do another netinstall
on it it will change.

The most recent box had 4 4 port ethernet cards.  Here's the order it was
in..

7 < onboard
11, 10, 9, 8 < first PCI card
15, 14, 13, 12 < second PCI card
2, 1, 17, 16 < third PCI card
6, 5, 4, 3 < fourth PCI card.

How the daughterboard wraps around the other ports is very odd - maybe the
PCI (or equivilent) addresses wrap around?
