The curse arises amongst European, Russian and Chinese peasantry -
various war lords rode roughshod over them in centuries of
submission.  We had our own Peasants' Revolt here, but the leader made
the mistake of talking to the king as was stabbed in the back.
I wouldn't doubt that we have a barbarian temperament or that we
manage, sometimes to do better.  This matter is sadly highly confused.
