Hello there, I found it wonderful that slip disc started this discussion. and I think only by this kind of communication and connectivity with each other we can eventually achieve the collective mentality or whatever it is that would in my eyes connect humans all over the globe and allow them to think together and discuss and eventually make decisions! I wanted to read more into the answers before making my contribution, but due to the lack of time I will just paste my ideas that I wrote two weeks ago before I just forget about it.
These are just ideas and brain storming about how to avoid war: "change the way politics is done, and the way decisions are made, also decisions in industry because economy is the driving force. how can we make the car industry for example decide to invest in environment friendly technologies when just selling more cars with a hazardous technology is more profitable? also the war industry is probably a big motor for the big wars to happen, this is a problem too. the one who benefits from a war would always want to make war. guarantee that this would not happen by changing the system accordingly? having no private industries with that potential? and maybe someday change the way humans function and think? achieve a system of wealth distribution among all humans. it seems when war is profitable for some people, then it will probably happen. we must first really understand why war happens, there are different scenarios and reasonings, it's a complex process that needs scientific analysis and understanding. but what can we contribute? we can use the internet. awaken more awareness among humans from all nations. make a platform for us all to communicate and relate to each other, because after all citizens are the ultimate driving force and are capable of forcing politicians and changing their destinies. we can use the internet to create this collective mentality by communicating with each other and creating a medium for us to express ourselves and maybe we will have a voice loud enough to say no to war and stop it too." The bottomline is, and this has been pondering on my mind for a while now as the only solution to many problems I find us facing, that we must create a kind of global forum using the internet. This kind of thing is probably not possible to achieve yet for the lack of capable software, but I see things moving in this direction, as we are already discussing issues on this forum from anywhere on earth. The important thing to achieve that I guess is the ability to organize information and connect them with each other. short suggestion: Relevant to this are a hypertext format that I saw Ted Nelson I think in an old footage talking about, he created that in the 70s already. I'm not sure whether it's Xanadu or maybe this is something else. Also being able to give meanings to the words in the semantic web, and having more connections. eventually as it's the goal of google to organize all human knowledge, finding a way to really organize the internet content in a way if you are looking for e.g. global warming you would be able to track all articles written about it and all related forums in an organized overview. And also having the web imbedded in a communication medium such that when a person posts something about any topic every human would be able to see and answer but still every thing is managable and user friendly. It's about intelligent organization and visualization of information such that lots of info can be easily used when communicating with each other. this achieved then it would be very easy for people to talk about world politics and have a clear way to express their opinions and demands to politicians. also this way scientists would be able to discuss issues from a scientific perspective and tell the politicians where to go. and ultimately being connected with each other, we are no enemies anymore..
