Nope, you precluded that when you said "I believe in God." :-D
The belief that the YOU persists beyond death is grounded in the ego, and a
fear of mortality. Of course the energy of which we are constructed is eternal,
but it's pure hubris to believe that we humans, an eye blink in geological
history, are so important as to be individually eternal.

Granted it seems a sticky problem. It all comes back around to what
is this 'I' that does the thinking? However it is easy to explain.
It is all in the head, when you are dead, then you think, nor feel,
nor emote no more.
It seems like certian aspects of conciouseness are outside of the
body, but really they are not. It seems that way because we humans
are good at taking ilogical leaps, it does seem to be the default for
us. But that too is easy enough to overcome.
I'm prone to the same myself, I belive in God, I know how
'unreasonable' that is, and I'm happy to admit it, and I can live with
that knowledge.
So I must also belive in spirit and the soul, and yes I do. However
this has nothing to do with who we are, our conciousness or our
personalities.
And really when it comes to defineing who we are, then we are talking
about personality. We know that there none of our personality resides
outside of the body, or in the soul or the spirt, it is all in the
head. We know this because we have many, many, many studies now
showing how personality changes with head trauma.
As to the true nature of what goes on in our heads, we dont know much
because we have not yet learnt much. I have absolutly no doubt that
one day we will know more about the workings of the brain, and then
these questions will be answered.
