I guess everything depends on perspective. The death is only bad for the person dying any anyone who is dependent on him, the death is good for the killer. Evil is our way of rejecting bad, making it external to ourselves, it allows us to deal with bad things quickly and without mercy.
Now, that being said, I do believe in a greater good, but I think those 'rules' are based in society and culture.
