The final statement is an assumption as physicians can always bury
their dead. Whether you are talking about the vapor caves of Anatolia,
leeches of the Middle Ages, early surgical practices, birth control
pills etc. medicine is trial and error like everything else. I would
include all rx as its longterm impact on the human system is unknown
as are the interactions with other drugs and common foods. Plus many
drugs incite a new condition/allergy// A great deal of superstition
and ignorance creates these myths that continue to act as a placebo.
There is a mind/body effect as the mind can create negative thoughts
to produce stress and anxiety which triggers hormones; conversely,
positive thoughts can create the opposite reaction.//The body is a
marvel of self-repair with proper food, rest and clean enviornment.//
This said, it is wars that advance surgical techniques; given the
injuries inflicted by suicide bombers and roadside devices, it is
heartening to see lives restored to these young men and women. Also,
the replacement of worn joints is adding years to extend an active
life. Elective surgery should be treated seriously- which sometimes is
not the case- and often does not repair the psyche or expectation. The
rude fact remains that our health begins at birth with grave
responsiblities to the parents (mother) to get a lad/lass off to a
good start- continued education about the impact of nutrition- the
luck of being born in a prosperous nation, etc.// I have little or no
patience for snake-oil salesmen, faith healers/fakirs or most self-
help therapies- it's a racket.// However, the woman across the street
went to great pains to begin dating again : she had upper lip hair
removed, got braces to straighten her teeth, had bunions removed on
both feet and it worked! :-)
