This is an important issue we shy away from. We have new Polish
neighbours and the whole character of our street has changed - for the
good. This has nothing to do with their ethnicity and everything to
do with them replacing local pond scum and what they attracted. The
underlying issues are not about ethnicity and religion, but decent and
reasonably objective social agreement - what in a bee colony might be
'hygiene'. Immigration does lead to social and psychological problems
(the other 'Manhattan Project' in the 1960s). People can be different
and unproblematic to each other, but poor migrants and criminals are
typically 'dumped' in areas already in need to help and well away from
the better off. This is key rather than ethnicity.
