Molly, are you making a distinction between spiritual, mental and
moral development vs physical adaptation?  I have always more or less
seen all three (including inventiveness) as points along the same
scale of progress in the sense that a species or an individual may run
across a barrier and use inventiveness to adapt to the new situation
which leads to the evolution of both in that the adaptations become a
permanent part of the species (DNA) or individual (wisdom).

What does evolution mean to you as regards inventing and adapting ?
