I think that perhaps Molly has it about right when she talks of
survival mode in a crisis.  For the majority of us in the developed
world life is pretty comfatable, and we seem to be a selfish bunch,
for example.

I have a, well not friend lets say some bloke I know, who is claiming
the dole and claims that he cannot pay his ex wife and three kids
child maintainence, well I found he went on a two week holiday abroad
in the summer, ohhh now the CSA is right on his back, yep I grassed
him right up.  Don't look after you kids huh, now that gets my goat.

Perhaps it is due to the population growth, not enough community
spirit, *shrug* I dunno.
