First, in no way do I see a ‘rebuff of Obama’. Now to your direct
questions.

“Do you think the Obama's were slightly in a state of denial in going
to Copenhagen to lobby the IOC?” - SD

“Slightly”??? I don’t know. Denial in general? No.

“If you were on the voting team would you have given Chicago any
consideration?” – SD

“any”??? perhaps. Would I have voted for Chicago? No.

“Should the IOC consider it's own reputation when voting?” – SD

I’m guessing you mean to imply a specific aspect of their history. Let
us know which aspect so we can accurately respond.

Overall, since it is ‘big news’ in the US today, my best guess is that
there remains a sour taste about the 2002 Salt Lake City games bribes.
This even though the entire system has become corrupt.

Also, since the US has hosted 4 of 28 Summer games and 4 of 22 Winter
games, a total of 8 of 50, not far short of 20%, I see no reason to
select the US. Also, there are 204 countries involved today. Let some
other countries go into debt! Sorry about the cynicism, but not only
would the ancient Greeks turn over in their graves about the politics
involved today, but the total commercialism of the games makes them
nothing more than another infomercial as far as I see it. I no longer
watch nor follow them.
