“…What he doesn't do is put this in perspective with the military build up and the winning of the cold war and the corresponding massive increase in our GDP that followed…” – DJ
This is the case if one has the expectation that this one article is of the nature of the Theory of Everything. However, since Noam has published well over 100 books and almost countless articles, papers and transcripts of interviews and speeches, one can find that he has quite a firm grasp on the cold war, the military industrial complex, GDP and the very nature of ‘winning’ itself in this context. My guess is that we are not far apart on the facts. We are on different sides of ideological dogma and slogans. I find the former to be much more important. The following links are but a few that can easily be found using god Google. A search on Noam and the economy. Select your own criteria. http://www.zcommunications.org/zsearch/search/?next=1 On the Cold War: http://www3.niu.edu/~td0raf1/history468/apr2304.htm An edited copy of an interview on Regan’s legacy. The original is also available at the listed source. http://www.commondreams.org/headlines04/0607-08.htm >From his book, “World Orders, New and Old”, an analysis of the Political-Economic Order. http://books.google.com/books?id=K56GNJeSt6IC&pg=PA140&lpg=PA140&dq=noam+chomsky+gdp+after+cold+war&source=bl&ots=0is6b-xwd4&sig=i89oMhSRf0wNOmjhktLAq9n7W1g&hl=en&ei=w8YUS4y7Koj8sgPgk5n9Aw&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=8&ved=0CCEQ6AEwBw#v=onepage&q=&f=false Apparently the reasoning around the ‘Cold War’ differs as to causes, nature of and end thereof. Here is a short analysis and presentation of many views, including that of Noam: http://everything2.com/title/What+ended+the+Cold+War%253F An interview with Noam on Capitalism: One needs to approach the topic with more than sound bites from corporate TV. Here he includes economic issues as well as Cold War issues. http://everything2.com/title/Noam+Chomsky+On+Capitalism This has some references to GDP and the Cold War in a larger context too. http://web.media.mit.edu/~nitin/mideast/chomsky_lecture.html On Nov 30, 7:29 pm, Don Johnson <[email protected]> wrote: > On Mon, Nov 30, 2009 at 4:45 PM, ornamentalmind > > <[email protected]> wrote: > > And Don, for your information: > >http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irony > > > By the way, the foundation of capitalism is “wealth redistribution > > ideologuery”. > > Ever notice the lyrics to the song 'Irony' by Alanis Morisette contain > little or no irony at all?
