I agree. In a thread at the BBC Radio 4 message boards (I'm 'angusrod'), I was deep in the middle of arguing about Richard Dawkins and so on, and we appeared to be approaching some area of /possible/ agreement, when the thread (as so often happens at those message boards) was arbitrarily cut short. I had just been offering my opinions of an article by Sam Harris, "Killing the Buddha", in a Buddhist online magazine. See particularly my messages #68 (bad typo corrected in #69) and #79, in the thread, "Richard Dawkins' Fundamentalism" referenced below (along with the Sam Harris article). http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mbradio4/F2766774?thread=7206447 "Richard Dawkins' Fundamentalism" http://www.shambhalasun.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2903&Itemid=244 Sam Harris, "Killing the Buddha" Have you (or has anyone else here) any thoughts to offer on what I said in message #79 of that thread about a "non-dogmatic progressive understanding of the mind" perhaps necessarily resembling a religion, and certainly not necessarily resembling a science? The whole thread had been started by a Buddhist, who told me (in message #40) that Buddhism was in fact just such an understanding as I had been looking for. (Anyone foolish enough to read the whole thread will learn more about me than anyone probably needs to know! But at least they will then know just what sort of fool has just joined this forum!) > As you imply Neil, > science is not objective …all protestations aside.
