Myths are a key concept in organisational symbolism, a form on
analyzing organisations popular amongst academics who can't count and
have nothing better to do than refine idiocy. Notions of
organisational culture are built on them and all of politics,
including those of chimps. Science tends not to like them and has
long exposed myths and fables for what they are, without realising it
should have exposed them as things of the past that are irrelevant
other than in the way they get in the way of thinking up new ones
about possible futures and in what remains of them in the practices of
science itself in holding back imagination. Religion too recognized
this eons ago. Advertising attempts to create and manipulate them. I
find them easier to live without than Radio 4, though it's hard to
enjoy a good story without being swooned by them.
