Pat really is the resident expert here so for a full understanding you
might consider waiting for his return.  I believe his thought is that
there is no need for parallel universes, when serial universes (one
change is enough, no need to re create the entire universe for it) are
more efficient.  The whole Occam Razors bit.  I am sure he would give
you an honest run for your money if he was available to do so.
