One of his greatest works was The War Prayer, which was banned by the
American government for many years along with Dalton Trumbo's Johnny
Got His Gun. Interesting that two of the most powerful anti-war
writings were banned for so long in a country that seems to love war
so much. The War Prayer still elicits howls of indignation among the
mongers on the right.

I also was very impressed with Clemens' Letters From Earth where he
duels with archangels from on high in a battle of wits over
righteousness.

When it comes to pure American humor though, he couldn't be topped,
not even among today's wittiest pundits.
