To add, we should also challenge that there is little evidence to
suggest that any religion has (especially despite zealous
authoritarians) managed to resist the change of time. Culture, the
carrier and lens of religious symbols is under constant pressures of
change: convergence, assimilation, migrations, resource/environmental
stimulus, etc. The only timeless and/or stagnant regions appear to be
the universal human experiences, whereas in a changing world it too must
evolve or die.

Hi Frank,
I don't know about the eccentricity Frank but I think you would agree
that all religious people do to some extent live within a world, a
shared world within the religious grouping, but still, irregardless
are still separate and distinctly apart from the non-religious. I
didn't start the thread to have fun. Has someone been having fun
while I was away? I didn't think so, but for sure I was serious about
my comments addressing religion as a failure and worse a continual
influence on social dichotomy; basically religion has done nothing to
unify except within each individual (splinter) group.
.
Before anything however, let me clarify............
When we talk about religion I'm not referencing the people who
gallantly endure hardship and sacrifice to help others in need. That,
in and of itself is not a religious act but a humanitarian one and
even with a claim of affiliation to a religious organization the act
remains humanitarian.
The context in which I speak of religion should be more than evident.
I see the core/root of the problem as conflict over the core/root of
the opposing religions.
As far as modification, I would think religions can be modified but
only for the portion of the global population that is religious to
begin with. We are not going to attract non theists by modifying any
religion. What my opening thread alludes to is - thousands of years
of religion has culminated into something that is so totally bizarre
and far removed from the core tenets of what it was intended to be.
The claims some religions make are deeply rooted and beyond change.
Fact is that for many religions just the mere thought of changing it
is against the religious belief. With conjured places like Dante's
Inferno it wouldn't be likely that anyone would consider going against
their god.

Sincerely,

Hi Slip Disc!
Do you think that all theist are eccentric and live in their own world
so to speak?
What would like to discuss here? Would you like to have fun with this
thread or would you rather have a serious conversation?
If you are looking for serious discussion, then one has got to admit
that religions are falling behind the rest of the world, just because
they cannot or are unwilling to change with time. I do not know where
changes in religions would take us; but I know that religions need to
be modified if they want to survive.
So, I would like to ask any serious member of Minds Eye group;
What do you think?
Can religions be modified?
My regards

Bravo rigs, a nice backlash! It took four posts and 19 minutes for
you to get it all out though, stewing were you?
I do appreciate the feed back, hoping for some more. It's really
about the dilemma developing over the pin heads in Floriduh and the
nut job jihadists.
I guess as much as I have to agree with you concerning people being or
acting religiously, I have to at least clarify that I was referring
primarily to theistic religiosity.
The pharmaceutical industry is one of the modern day deceptions that
use us as guinea pigs for mostly experimental remedies.
any other takers?
