Tribes are more concerned with survival, perhaps, but so were early cities and later castle fortifications,etc. Also division of labor is a factor while modern men have substituted machines for slaves and workers. Not sure I agree about the obsession with individuality- if anything, there is still a strong herd instinct and suspicion of individuality/privacy. What about Confucius, Buddha, Ghengis Khan, etc.? Plus many others stand out except their names are hard to remember at the moment. They were usually men and leaders of some sort. Outside of a few women, females are mostly invisible, in fact often worth less than cattle and primarily used for sex or propagation and regulated to the cooking and a drudge filled life, an early death or sati.
