Anything our cat ran away from would be terrifying indeed. RP's issue of a creation without a beginning is much discussed in science - though often ends up in consideration of infinity as both very small and very big - in Penrose the vastness of the universe gone to photons only (vastness) may be the next biggly bang point (small). Arghh!
I liked Collingwood - "art" at Stanford EP brings up a few more papers - found them a bit tedious. In terms of the alien we might look at the 'actualists' and the 'possiblists' - but this lapses into many world modal logic most can't take. A neighbour's cat comes and stares into our front room at night. On the first occasion I saw it as an owl (eyes, fat face). It is now the owl cat though it looks nothing like one. I have never hallucinated an alien, only demon figures, golden-clawed lobsters and a swan that became Concorde and then a space-rocket. There's a lousy virus doing the rounds that pretends to be a police fine for watching porn - mine came with a phony update for Adobe Flash and disturbingly was able to switch my webcam on. Had to shut down and F8 on to restart to go into safemode plus command prompt to use system restore. One types in rstrui.exe at the prompt and goes back to a convenient prior date. You never get anything decent like an alien message.
