Yes, "iwlist scan" sees AP's in the neighborhood. So basic WiFi is OK. And wpa_supplicant logging shows successful negotiation of a crypto key. It's just turning on actual crypto which seems to be the problem. Weird, huh? But thanks for your thoughts.
