Hi,

I'm mostly using the Ben NanoNote nowadays (which has a Jz4740), which
has a USB device port that can be used to unbrick it. I saw someone
talk about unbricking the mipsbook as well, thinking of JTAG.

I don't want to discourage you, but I would advise to see if the Jz4730
of the mipsbook can be unbricked in the same way. According to
Ingenic's Linux source, there is a usb device controller on-board, and
there is something called BOOT_SEL (which with the 4740 is used to
switch between nand boot and usb boot).

I opened my mipsbook, and found a header which seems to be for a
mini-USB-B connector (so to make the mipsbook use the device port). If
my mipsbook would be bricked, I'd solder a connector to that and see if
it can be made to work. Perhaps it's better to first do that with a
working machine, though, so you can test if the port can indeed be used.

Just a suggestion. :-)

Perhaps some people may want to use the port for "normal" things as
well, which should of course also be possible. You probably need some
(smd) components with it; I'm just guessing that it will work "good
enough for unbricking" without them (they're probably for improving the
link quality). I may well be wrong about that, of course.

Thanks,
Bas
