I very much like the general idea of the logo. I agree with Jeremie that the colours don't seem quite right -- they break up the natural flow of the double helix. I think one strand of the helix could be blue and the other green. The "front" of each strand would be bright, and the "back" darker. I say blue and green rather than red and green because a carefully chosen blue and green can be simultaneously complementary and contrasting, which is what you want for their "dual" appearance as both a double helix and a set of Xs. It's hard to get red to be complementary.
The other point I'd make is that the font used for the "MI" part doesn't seem to fit well with the Xs. It's too "straight" and harsh-cornered, so the logo is split in two and doesn't hang together. Something more rounded would be good, where the verticals on the M are not actually vertical but angled, the corners and maybe the caps are rounded, and everything has more of a soft, flowing feel. I've just run the gauntlet of word-blindness looking for a suitable font. The closest I found were Ethnocentric and Good Times -- if you have those they'll show you the kind of thing I mean, though they're perhaps not quite right as-is.
