Well, somehow, I like the colours a lot, I see them as follows: As they are on the inside of the helix, it is like something valuable, precious inside (maybe like a velvet inlay---especially as colours are blended), shielded by the strong monocrome outside. It promotes a sensation of robustness opening to the observer with a precious core. However, the blended colours inside do not comply to the "inside of the helix" vision as they seem to blend "flat", breaking the "tubular" illusion of the helix.
