I've been poking at mixxx and jackd and audio on my laptop and my (too modest) lab computer, and having bad luck (control surface, jackd/ubuntu issues...). I'm far too busy to get down to compiling kernels and mixxx to make it work (RT kernel problems sleeping laptop, etc), and I need to get moving musically. (I'm a grad student, working, commuting 100 miles/day, heading up a race car team, moved two servers last week, ...)
Lucky me, I got some rare cash to BUY myself out of this paper bag. I want to build a modest machine to run jackd, mixxx. It will be: * MicroATX form factor
* 12V automotive power supply (target physical environment * isolation)
* Intel processor
* Any mATX mobo's with better-than-average audio?
* Any chipsets to AVOID?
* Any reason to go USB audio "card" instead of on-board? (Beside the * fact I have a Soundblaster USB that works).
With a dedicated sound computer (that doesn't need to hibernate, etc) I can try out Robin's kernel patch to get Herc Control MP3 support, or, gasp, I can buy a known-compatible control surface, which I would prefer at this point to hacking code (the Herc seems rickety too). I've been beat-matching by dragging my cramped and fatiqued fingers across a trackpad. That sucks! Is there any external interface (besides mouse) that allows some sort of decent jog/drag behavior? I'm WAY not a spend-to-solve person, I home-build nearly everything, but sometimes you gotta get off the bus. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Microsoft Defy all challenges.
