USB is tied to a computer host, has wimpy bus power, and no approved
wireless implementation. The USB connectors are not durable and are costly
to terminate.

I'm thinking more along the path of a cheap Ethernet UDPv6 module with an
OSC implementation. The cabling for twisted pair ethernet is inexpensive,
easy to test and terminate, and can be easily connected using common
networking equipment. Too bad that a cheap development board is still $70+

If you can come up with an A/D input hardware module that's $25-50 and
implements OSC over UDPv6, then you've got a reasonable means to avoid tying
your stuff to a computer host.

Any EE's listening in? :-)
