Does anyone know if there is a reason why our roads are so much worse than
other countries? I mean some European countries get tons of snow and ice
yet have glass smooth roads. Is it government regulation, different
materials or do the contracting companies keep doing a lousy job to keep
themselves in business?

I totally disagree with your statement. Just cause you spend a lot on
wheels and they are a top notch brand (ie. BBS, Borbet, OZ, etc.) doesn't
mean that they aren't going to bend. The fact is that the high class
wheels that we all love aren't made for our shitty american roads. I have
had 2 different sets of BBS wheels (the stock wheels that came on the '92
GTI and a set of Bugatti's) and guess what. I have bent at least one
wheel on both sets. And those are just 15". If I had bigger wheels, like
16" or 17", I would always have bent wheels. Our roads just aren't made
to the quality that these wheels are meant to be driven on. I also feel
that the tire plays a factor in bending wheels as well, being it is the
only thing that cushions your expensive investment.
Anyway, thats my opinion.
