When I first got my current GLI, oil temp was running up to 250+ and
water temp was past mid mark during the normal driving, worse w/ the A/C on.
I've replaced the radiator, hoses, low temp thermostat/fan switch and new
expansion
tank and now even after hot runs at autox, it's about 220 w/ water
temp slightly below mid mark. Normal driving see about 220 but water temp
at 1/4 mark.

Well i had a major overheating problem in my car and after i replaced the
thermostat and the fan switch my car runs at about 201-215 F and the water
temp needle sits just a hair below the light. It used to run up in the
250's and being in Miami (always hot) this cool water temp is great. Even
in traffice it doesn't go up much.

Subject: A2 16 - Normal oil temps??
Date: Mon, 24 Jan 2000 06:44:06 -0000
Hi all,
Ive heard that the 1.8 16v engines typically run at 220-240 deg. F which
got me thinking about my own. The MFA readout when the engines hot only
ranges from 94C-102C (201F 216 F). Do you think the MFAs sensor has gone
or is this normal? The car runs Mobil 1 15W-50, the coolant is OK, and the
water temp is almost rock solid in the middle of the gauge under all
conditions. Any ideas?
Cheers,
Alex
