Now that my car is all together and I've only recently discovered the legend of 
the '89 Wolfsburg, I think my ultimate GLI would be that car with a 2.0L and 
Motronic-the very one you're creating!  Does your car have ABS?  That's part of 
the fantasy too.

I know that there's a Scirocco page that has instructions, etc. on installing 
the Motronic into a SII 16v.  Unfortunately, I don't have the URL.  Someone on 
the list may know of it. 

You wrote that you'd need:

        Air box (Yup)
        Fuel lines, fuel rail (there is no fuel rail), fuel injectors (yes; 
they are different), injector inserts (they are different.  One difference: 
they have a channel at the outside top for the injector clip), wiring to 
injectors (there is no wiring to the injectors)
        Main fuel pump, fuel lines to/from pump? (I would guess that this is 
the same, but I'd have someone with the ETKA check the P/Ns)
        ECU and any wiring to/from it (YES.  You already know that you need the 
Motronic wiring harness)
        Knock box (there is none.  It's integrated into the computer)
        The second knock sensor (You'll need both.  I believe 

The page makes the excellent recommendation to check the harness thoroughly 
with a multi-meter before installing it in your mo-chine.

        Speaking of this subject, I am about to pick up a used 2L 16V engine, 
and I
        think I need
        a great big fix of the OAK16VL (Omnipotent and All Knowing 16 Valve 
List).
        I am replacing
        the block (1.8L 16V) in my 89 Wolfsburg GLI (yes its Helios Blue). The 
old
        one has a spun
        #3 rod bearing and damage to the crank and rod (thanks for the diagnosis
        ben). I am only paying
        ~$650 andI can also have all the stuff I need to convert to Motronic.
        Everything is coming out of a
        Passat. I think I have central electric.

        My problem: what do I need? Does anyone have a list/url/whatever with 
this?
        If not, we could probably use one. We could put it on somebodies page 
when
        its done (Alex?,
        anyone).

        Here is what I can guess of the top of my head:

        Air box

        I am unsure of the stuff with ?.

        I'll also have some parts from both engines available for sale after 
this.
        I already have a Schrick baffled pan from Velocity and a new oil pump.
        I would love to find some cams, a Garret chip, and a 50mm intake, but I
        want to get the
        Motronic sorted out before I start adding more variables. Oh, and I 
plan on
        using my
        1.8 head unless I uncover any damage.
