While the center diff in the Diamond Star cars may be able to handle
the power of a 4-wheel burnout, the transmissions in those cars don't
take well to that kind abuse.  A friend's early Talon with his
home-brew of modifications (he's an EE with an ME mind-set so go
figure) would routinely eat 5.0L Mustwangs in any gear BUT it would
grind the gears at anything other than a slow and deliberate movement
of the shifter.
