American Family categorizes them based on an internally assigned vehicle
symbol, based on cost to repair, ...?
1983 GTI symbol: 13
1997 Toyota Rav4 symbol: 20
1991 GTI 16V symbol: 32
The symbol on my car was so high that the insurance agent got up out of his
chair and walked out to the parking lot to see the car.

I don't understand why the 16v would have a higher insurance premium than
the other cars on this thread. They all seem to be in the same category as
far as an insurance company would be concerned. Besides, anything with
"GT"
"X" or "R" in the model name is a insurance markup I would think.
