Yeah, a Civic CX is a great platform to swap into. I will chat with you all day
long regarding Honda's if you want to. Since I live in SoCal I have no choice
but to be surrounded by them. I have chosen to learn all I can about my
"competition" rather than shunning Honda's as "trash". Honestly, I love VW's,
but with the right motor/chassis combo in a Honda, it would smoke any VW
around, VR6 or not (Im talking NA here, turbo's add a whole other dimension to
it...). Anyway, maybe look for a basic 92-95 Civic DX (easier to find than a CX)
and swap the B16 right in. To put a B16 in a 92-95 car, it has to be a B16A2/A3
and you need an adaptor from HASport in Phoenix, otherwise welding is required.
B16A1's have a different drivers side motor mount location. Dont get a B18C1 or
B17, they are WAY more $$$ to fix, and a lot harder to find. I would go for a
B16 if you want a DOHC VTEC motor. Of course, you could also get a REALLY cheap
B18B (DOHC, Non-VTEC, Integra)and swap it in too. Without VTEC they are cheaper
and easier to swap, and the B18B's make about 140HP and about 130 ft/lbs of
torque. Anyway, I would rather have a fast NA car than a Turbo car. I have one
of each now, and Turbo's just plain suck in city driving!

With the hood open, just drive around clutching the car and holding the
brakes at the same time. You just have to look in the little opening under the
hood or look through your driver's window to see how your engine moves around.
You do that in first gear and in reverse. Brice's technique is also good, but
it only worked for me when my rear mount was useless and my tranny mount
unsafely loose.
You only use the above of course if you're ready to drive around your street
with the hood open and your head out the window...which looks kind of dumb ; )
Secondly, to continue that thread I started about the replacement of my 16v,
I think I'll go with a golf I'll convert to 16v or to vr6 (16v would be MUCH
cheaper tough and I think I like the 16v more than a vr). On the other side, I
can't shake off the idea of a motor swap (japanese market 180hp gsr engine with
LSD tranny) in a little econobox. Since a lot of you guys told me the crx was
old, and that it had an "x" in its title (for insurance purposes..), I thought
of something. That crazy motor in a 92-95 civic cx (no a/c, no p/s etc...)
would fit right in without any modifications (same motormounts, same
everything). Anyway, enough about that Honduh stuff....sorry guys, I won't do
it again.

How can I check the motormounts to make sure they're not shot? Are there
any other ways than to pull the handbrake and let the clutch out a bit, while
someone else looks at the engine? Also is there anyway to tell which mount is
bad? On my car when I let out the clutch, if I let it out too quick, or if I
don't match the revs good enough and let it out quick, I get a 'clunk clunk'
that seems like the engine is jumping around in the engine bay. It makes the
car extremely hard to drive smoothly. I was thinking the front motor mount, or
maybe the rear one... Any ideas?
