I'd have to disagree with the 15 year lifespan of the shifter ball. You
may be able to shift with a ball that old, but it won't even come close
to a new shifter ball. It gets really sloppy. I've atually noticed that
the ball lasts longer than the cup that it sits in. I think an aluminum
cup would help out a lot. Perhaps a machined aluminum ball as well. I'm
not sure if the aluminum ball would last as long as that extremely tough
plastic (or whatever it is) that the shifter ball is made of. The cup is
ordinary pastic though. Both of mine were worn completely through.
