Ahh, come on...that's the easy way out!!! ;-) If your point is what does it matter if a consumer buys a Chrysler or MB product, the $ all goes to the same place, then I ask u why does a consumer by an Audi A4/A6 over a Passat? It's basically the same car. The obvious answer is the status level acquired by telling your neighbor u drive an MB or Audi. People are willing to pay more for that privilege when they can have an comparable car for thousands less.
Since people are willing to pay more for a name, a car company wants to promote the status symbol mark b/c it's a cash cow. It costs DehimlerChrysler about the same to develop an MB or a Chrysler. However, if u can make 3x the profit on the MB, why not promote them as a superior product??? Since an elevated status level of a car insinuates better quality, the point of the story was that Chrysler wanted to be able to make the same claim as MB, therefore increasing it's status level. By increasing it's status level DehimlerChrysler can A) charge more for Chryslers B) sell more Chryslers b/c they are like MB, but cheaper (high quantity x a lower price can make more profit than low quantity x high price, hence sales). Either way DehimlerChyrysler makes more $$ and those corporate fat cats control more of God, Apple Pie, and the good ol' USA!!! Whoops, paranoia setting in again ;-). Sorry for the thesis on basic economics....it's late, my brain is fried, and it's not Friday yet....DAMN IT!!! -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]]On Behalf Of [email protected] Sent: Thursday, August 02, 2001 10:34 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: True Story nevermind...........I can see it's not even worth trying to explain
