Actually, if you had read what I wrote, it says to hit the KNUCKLE with a 
hammer, NOT the tierod end.  And you can prevent them from "mushrooming" but 
leaving the nut on the end, if you decide to do it that way.  And I don't know 
where you're buying your tierod ends, but for $65, you're bending over pretty 
far.
