Hello Boyd Drew

When the Corrado pedal cluster is used
the GTI double jointed connecting shaft between the bottom of the
steering column and the rack ends up being about 1/4 of an inch short. I
dealt with this problem by cutting the shaft in half and adding a sleeve
of 3/4 inch ID heavy wall steel tube over the shaft. The sleeve is
held in place with two AN type thru bolts. Interestingly this same
arrangement is used on the GLX but the GLX shaft cannot be used since the
spline on the rack end is coarser than the one for the GTI.

speaking of swapping steering
racks...

can anyone confirm that the steering column is a different length for
the

power rack than it is for the manual one??

I was bolting in a manual rack in my former power rack-ed car and the
column

u joint will not reach the splined shaft on the rack.

it misses it by about 1/8{quot} making it about 3/4{quot} or so too
short. yanking on

the column thinking that it was puched in seemed to do nithing. and yes
the

rack is mounted to the subframe correctly. ;)

In the distant past I purchased the same VW puller as shown in
Bentely

from JC Whitney for $15. Also available from SnapOn man for big bux.
Worth

every penny. Maks task trivial. Similar can be borrowed from
Kragen.
