Isn't the alternator fan & pully a one piece? If so, how can the fan shoot
through the hood if it's still on the belt? If the belt went loose, wouldn't
it just start whining and then quit while the fan & pully remain on the alt
shaft? If it's the whole shaft that gets loose, try tightening it with an
impact wrench or something

Subject: [a2-16v-list] Alternator fan # 2 through the hood

So awhile back some of you may remember me talking
about having an alternator fan shoot through the hood.
Well, last night it happenend again. Wham! there
goes another one. So the question I have for you all
is how do I stop this from happening??? Yes, I am
using the same alternator which there doesn't seem to
be anything wrong with. I think its some kind of
resonsance thats killing it beucase a few days ago I
heard this nasty noise coming from the front of the
motor between 4000-4500 rpm. (sounds like a dead a/c
clutch or bad alternator). Now with a new fan its
gone. I am sure glad I was a cheap ass & hadn't
bought a new hood cause I would have been pissed.

Tony
Now with 2 holes in my hood
