I can smell coolant and have some white steam coming from the dash at hot
start up, not to mention foggy windshield all the time in the cold weather.
As a result, I think I may have a potential heater core recall candidate on
my hands. Has anyone on the list had their 1991 Jetta Gli covered by the
recall? I did a search here for a 1990 Jetta and I see the bulletin:

http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/recalls/central2.cfm

However, I do not see it listed for a 1991 Jetta. In my research on the net,
it is said that the recall is based on VIN number. I called the dealer and
got a run around, "we'll call you back to advise." In addition, they can't
see my car for a few weeks. I called VWOA (800-822-8987) as well and they
advised me to have the car diagnosed and then the dealership will advise if
it's covered. I still have to pay the hourly rate for diagnoses unless the
core is covered. This sucks, it's December in New England, and I can't see
out my windshield and I'm gagging on coolant stench. Meanwhile the dealer
does not see to be in a rush to check it out.

Thanks,

Jim
