WOW!  It's amazing how similar all of our cars are.  I just had my heater 
core replaced as a "coutesy service" at Common Wealth VW down here in orange 
county.  I did like everyone else and asked to check the recall history of 
my vin and then told them what was wrong(same symtoms as you guys).  They 
said just bring it in and i had the car back in 2 days.  I don't know how 
much good my story does for you guys back in new england.  Good luck.
